Waxing FAQ’s

Eyebrows Waxing

Eyebrows generally require waxing every 2 weeks. Some require waxing a little before, or possibly every 3 weeks. Your eyebrows will likely be red and a little inflamed immediately after the waxing session. Most waxers apply a product to soothe the irritation, which generally goes away after about 30 minutes. Eyebrows are referred to as “siblings,” not “twins.” One is inevitably higher than the other, so do not panic if your brows are not completely even. Many makeup artists and beauty experts say the eyebrows should not be even because it brings more character to the face.

Lip Waxing, Chin Waxing

The great thing about waxing is that, when it is done correctly, it pulls the hair out from the root and leaves your skin smooth and hair-free for up to a month.Waxing pulls the hair out of the skin from the root and doesn’t break it. This leads to a longer period of time with clear skin. If the hair on your lip or chin are too short to wax, tweezing will be implemented to ensure the hair is removed by the root.

Face Waxing

Face Waxing acts an excellent exfoliator. It takes off all the little hairs that everyone see’s. Waxing your face helps your makeup go on a better (like an instant primer!) and is less irritating than epilations and creams. Waxing correctly thins out the hair follicle leading to slower regrowth—and finer, softer, less regrowth over time. This makes hair less noticeable and waxing less painful going forward. As a result, your face is left smooth for a longer length of time.

*Note mild stinging may occur post-wax. But we can’t stress this enough: The more you wax, typically the less it hurts each additional time.

Bikini Waxing / Brazilian Waxing / Rio Waxing – Is this going to hurt?

The most common thing asked to every single wax technician about to perform a bikini wax, is about the pain. Unfortunately, it is an unavoidable part of waxing. There will be some pain, especially or first timers whose hair is dense and thick. However, taking an ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your treatment can help minimize pain and inflammation.

Does waxing take a long time?

Getting your upper lip waxed takes a few minutes, your bikini area can be a longer process. Generally a bikini wax can take between 15-25 minutes but can vary for each person. Keep in mind that your waxing technician is aware of the pain and will try to make you as comfortable as possible.

Shaving vs waxing – is shaving a better choice?

There is no question that shaving would be less painful than waxing. But it won’t deliver the same results as a good bikini wax. Shaving only removes the shaft of the hair and roots will still be visible. Waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle, including the root. This will result in a much smoother appearance. There is also the issue of shaving causing embarrassing bumps or ingrown hairs, that could actually lead to scars. And lastly, shaving just doesn’t last as long!

How long will my wax last?

Waxing results will last longer than shaving but everyone’s hair grows back differently. In general, hair will not grow back in for about 3 weeks, although in some cases it can start growing back within a week and a half. The longer you wax the longer time between waxes you will have.

How do I care for my waxed area?

The secret to long lasting results actually comes after your appointment is complete. Exfoliate regularly and hydrate the areas. Dead skin or buildup makes it difficult for the hair to get through, which can cause ingrown hairs. Exfoliating and hydrating is the key! The other thing to remember is that regular waxing means better results, weaker hair follicles and less pain.

Body Waxing (arms/legs)

Shaving only removes the shaft of the hair and roots will still be visible. Waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle, including the root. This will result in a much smoother appearance. There is also the issue of shaving causing embarrassing bumps or ingrown hairs, that could actually lead to scars. And lastly, shaving just doesn’t last as long!
